  1. Very on the point at the end there. It’s why I’ve recently done a bunch of mini itx (or smaller) builds, to save on money. And “The Hardware Doesn’t Make the Mod”, I totally agree with. Seems there’s other places that have forgotten that…

I agree Mos, the gear in a system doesn’t make the mod.  There are builds and then there are mods.  I’d rather see ingenuity and an unusual approach to putting stuff together in a a new way even with “old” hardware.  That’s why I prefer to follow scratch build projects on forums.

  3. Considering the first case mod to catch my attention was the Caffeine Machine – Not at all what I’d call a “high dollar innards” pc(In fact, the highlight of the build was everything BUT the innards(!!!)) build. Definitely a fantastic point to be made to anyone starting on their modding hobby/career.

I was just describing the Caffeine Machine yesterday to a customer… and talking about the PimpRig days with MaximumPC…

It’s great that you and Vern are part of the Zoo, Jeremy..

  5. I’m supposed to hear details sometime this week.

It’s good to see MaximumPC covering PC Modding again… I think it’s been 6 – 7 years since they’ve stopped publishing their “Mod of the Month” on the back page…

  6. Great job on this episode! I was in tears couple times.

    “Deadliest Catch” 900D!
Wife and hobbies…..she thinks it’s an addiction! I know (now) not to touch the Vacation fund.

Looking forward to the next episode.

  7. Great Podcast you guys. Thanks for getting me through my Friday Morning. I’m already on my second time through to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

  8. As always a great show. On the topic of justifying cost to your better half, I set a fixed amount away each month for my toys and I can do whatever I want with it. That way no one gets upset.

  9. Another quite solid episode.

I think it speaks loads to turn down a review on the basis of running adds and the related conflict of interest.  We need more of that in this world, not just cow-towing to industry.  When the time comes to expand, I think Kickstarter would be a sweet fund raising option.  $10 to know Cheapz’ real name?  Jackpot.

  10. LOL @ The Razer bit.  I RMA’ed a Razer mouse.  I didn’t have to and wasn’t asked to cut the cord.  However….I won’t buy their product again.  Like Bill pointed out….their stuff is feces.

-Just saved you $10; Quit asking. It’s not like the info is valuable or anything.

  12. I remembered what I ditched from Razer…. Their Lycosa keyboard and Razer Mamba Mouse

and I bought Logitech G15 KB & G7 Mouse, and had Brad custom paint them

  13. How is it the English made up the language, and they can’t even speak it right?!  Boo-EE!  BOO-EE!  Not BOY!  You don’t hear Captains say “look, there’s someone hanging on to that BOY!”  Well…unless it’s a catholic priest (ooooooooooooooooh snap!)

  14. It is pronounce BOY… bah! Do you say Boo-ee-ancy? One thought not, now if you would be so kind as to learn to use the language as it was intended without your back water bastardisation that would be swell! :P

ROFL. You Australians and your tomfoolery and poppycock!  :D

  16. That keyboard and mouse look amazing.  I am really questioning my choice of peripherals now.  I like noisy keyboards (Deathadder is quiet), and I have 12 buttons on the side of the mouse I don’t really make use of.  I bought the mouse because of my WoW nerdery, and I don’t play the game anymore.

  17. LOL, don’t let our shenanigans on the ‘cast make you change your mind on products, Grimm; we’re merely voicing our opinions about any given thing, or if we’ve used something we do not like, we’ll be honest about it.  Sometimes, brutally.  If the mouse works for you and you’re happy with it, that’s what counts.  Bill merely stated what he thought of that company’s offerings; I tend to agree with him on it too for the record, but others may feel differently.  It’s part of life.  Some may like whipped cream on their pie; some may not.  Life’s full of choices!

We don’t want to be known as slanted, so we try our damnedest to be as openly honest about something as possible. That’s why people got bent out of shape over my Crap or Not segment; I’m honest.  ;)  I can’t help it if something sucks, ya know?

  18. I’m one of those people that think a mouse should survive a relaxed swing by the cord into a hard object. That’s a pretty good simulation of the kind of abuse it would get if I snagged the cord accidentally. If it explodes in a situation like that…

    Do you say Boo-ee-ancy?

    I do now.:D

  19. I agree with you Jeremy.  I have had my fair share of workings with their products…they work, but it sucks when you get a mouse that works for about 5 minutes then dies.  Customer service was a nightmare.  I prefer an honest opinion over sugar coating something.

The second mouse works but because of the feces I had to deal with to get it, I have very mediocre feelings about Razer products.

  20. Hahahah!  My fave comment so far in that thread, “The only thing that hasn’t broken on me from Razer is their mousepad… waiting for that to burst into flames.”

    ROFL

  21. lol I just realized that, my mouspad is a razer too, and it’s the only razer product i haven’t thrown against the wall. it still sucks in comparison to the old one I had, but I haven’t had time to game, so it’s served its purpose so far

  22. That is very funny.  Sounds kinda low to do but when I build my son his comp….I will give him my Razer stuff.  If he breaks it, I don’t have to give a feces about it.

  23.

    It’s Lobster Boy!

FYI Bill – We kiwis pronounce it the same as Kyle does – I just translate things into american so you can understand me :)
Kyle: We’re weird? You guys have deep fried coke cans and fried pizza for gawds sake!
    :)

  24. Haha, I noticed the Coca Cola obsession In EU… One actually got angry when Pepsi was mentioned in convo, It’s like living in the Pepsi Challenge Era again
