Although there is nothing wrong with the functionality of the Apogee HD, or even the aesthetic for that matter, it’s always nice to have a new CPU waterblock to play around with. Swiftech has introduced their new Apogee XL CPU waterblock. It fits on all modern sockets
Some of the features that Swiftech states the new Apogee XL have include a 1 degree Celsius average improvement over the Apogee HD while having 10% less flow restriction than the Apogee HD. These may not seem like significant improvements, but keep in mind that the CPU block as a component has been pretty well figured out by a lot of manufacturers by this point in time, so it’s not going to be easy to eke out performance gains.
The Swiftech Apogee XL comes with mountings for socket 1155/1156/1150 (Default out of the box), with additional hardware for Socket 2011/2011-3 and the AMD sockets (754, 939, 940, AM2/+, AM3/+, F, FM1, FM2/+)
Although not pictured in this review, Swiftech also has a clear bodied version labeled as the Apogee XLC.
The Current retail price for both versions, direct from Swiftech, is $64.95 at the time of review.
