Swiftech Komodo-R9-LE

Jesse aka Captain CurrySauce, takes a look at the new Swiftech Komodo R9 LE waterblock for the R9 290/290X.

When it comes to water cooling, Swiftech does not need any introductions. Swiftech has been making water-blocks for a very long time, and now Swiftech has released an all new line of GPU water-blocks. The Komodo R9 LE have created a new breed of water-blocks. Finally we have water-blocks that are not just great looking or great performing. These are also great for the modder in all of us.

The Komodo R9 LE (Luxury Edition) is a true full cover block that cools all the major components of the AMD reference design R9 290 or R9 290X GPUs. The water-block fully covers the GPU, that not just creates a very aesthetically pleasing water-blocks, but also helps protect the GPU from any unwanted damaged from exposed parts. At a price of $179.95, the Komodo series water-block comes with back-plate, so you don't have to buy that an an optional accessory. Also included with the water-block are three color strips (Red, Blue and Green) that allow you to color match the built in LED lighting to your color scheme. And unlike lot of other blocks, the Swiftech water-block is Chrome plated, and not nickle plated. The chrome plating creates a much brighter and sharper looking base plate than any other water-block out there. One of my favorite feature has to be pre-cut thermal pads, already installed. That honestly cuts the installation time by a lot. For more information on the Swiftech Komodo R9 LE waterblock please check out Swiftech's website.

Good review, man.

I've had the pleasure of looking at a few of these in the recent past for mods on the edge-plates at work.  I like the direction they've gone for designs.

Great job Jesse.  Comes to my attention that the flow rate is stifled because of the cooling fins spacing.  But, on the other hand, it did drop the temps considerable.

Yes, they do take the flow down, and if someone had more than one of these bad boys in a loop, I would recommend going with a parallel loop.
