I realize this may not be much of a mod and it's not really artistic but is more for funcionality and to let everyone here know that not all mods have to be these huge, expensive works of art. I got tired of setting black and grey USB drives on my laptop and having them blend in and not being able to find them. So I masked them off with painters tape and grabbed some enamel model paint and a small brush. Now the flourescent green pinstriping makes them stand out and also ensures that if I ever give one to a friend with files and want it back that it is returned. In conclusion, this may be the smallest/cheapest mod posted here but I'm hoping that in showing this that it will encourage all of our members to show off their work, no matter how insignificant they may feel it is.
Ok so this is the smallest mod or you can stay a utilizing of small parts project of mine...... As I had some spare acrylic lying around my place....so I wanted to do something productive with it..... I was thinking about it long ago when I used to search my Thumb drives here and there while I needed those...and though Why not make something which will organize my thumb drive so I don't have to search it all the way in my drawers..... Then once I saw a 3D printing template at Dremels 3d printing site which was a thumb drive holder But actually I really didn't liked its shape and the compact area where a little bulky thumb drive would get scratched by touching while keeping and removing the thumb drive in there....so I come up with a better and spacier yet small solution....of which I just made a draft drawing @ my office pass time 1st the concept was to make a thumb drive stand then it should be either able to keep in ones desk or in the wall for decoration plus utilization purpose....but I thought that if its mounted in the wall then the thumb drives might fall of from it as there's not much grip in it at all..... Then I have though that there will be also expandability option to it so that if people are getting more and more thumb drives then they can attach with their previous one to make it more usable according to there needs... Then made a perfect sketch of it after 2 days at home....but I wasn't sure about the double curve which I was thinking about that will it be a success or not....so started a 1st try out.. So here goes the markings and drawings over the acrylic It was a 5mm thick acrylic and yes I know that It will be a challenge to do such a thing with it by hand....but as I had some spare weekend time thats why I took the challenge to see what it appears to be.. So after a lot of hard bending it turned out to be like this....I was satisfied with the shape but also wasn't satisfied with the finishing of the usb holding cuts.....as those were rough..... I dumped the previous one to make a simpler one out of it....so that it becomes easier to make a gud finishing out of it.....so here's the new technique cutting the holes..... Drilled holes in the corners for making it easy to take out the hole parts out when it is loose... And this time I was really satisfied with the cutting finishes...though it wasn't as perfect as a laser cutter..... :(... Here was the concept.....now comes the bending part....this time I made it simple than before... Close up... Made some Grips with rubber padding attaching with the double sided thin tape Then colored it to give it a nice fresh look....Black obviously... Matte black and chrome color at the side.... Didn't waste my spray paint to paint the bottom as it will not be visible anyways... As I wasn't satisfied with the side part of the acrylic and its color...so decided to vinyl it with a chrome vinyl to give a cleaner look.... And it worked out pretty well.... :) And here's the Implementation of the finished product.... ;) Even it support thin usb port which corsair flash voyager mini has..... ;) SOME GLAM SHOTS..... ;) Close Ups... Please share your thought's comments and suggestions about it guys and girls....really Appreciate each and every comments of yours...
